Studio Portrait Practice

Updated: Mar 29, 2021
This week I explored different lighting effects using soft boxes and the beauty dish modifiyer on the studio strobe lights. We started with the white cyclorama wall as a soft background with an additional strobe focused on the wall to eliminate the hard shaddows behind Camille.

Using different sitting positions, I changed the light source to present the varied ways of creating soft shaddow on the subject's face. There are some great advantages of using the beauty dish in portraiture, as it serves as a basic light for studio photography and does not create a harsh appearance, whilst mantaining details and light shaddows. Its been the best light modifier for me based on concentrating the light on Camille during the shoot and I found that it was the most varsitile to use.
Using the same light set-up, we moved to the Black background, where I took another collection of images with a low powered soft box on the right of the frame to fill in some of the shaddow details and the left side of Camille's face.
